Which one of the cd/dvd has 9front in? Can you type "!rc" (it will drop you into a shell) and do "ls /dev/sd*/" there? See if there are any plan 9 partitions. Shell can be exited with ctrl+d after. You're supposed to provide the kernel with a correct filesystem path to boot from, that's the idea.
