when the man page refers to the command-like "sender" it means the envelope sender. the envelope sender appears in unix mbox format as the 'From ' line at the beginning of each message. this is not the same as the 'From: ' line in the smtp header. but none of this has anything to do with gmail's willingness to relay mail. - erik
