I am just this year (shame on me!) really starting to use constructive re's to effect. It's really worth playing around with X// and friends. Having (e.g.) 32 Acme windows up and applying a command to 1/2 of them is really very nice.
The ease with which one can apply a shell command to a blob of text is also quite nice. It's kind of like having a semi-interactive pipeline. ron
