With enterprise-level 2.5" drives hitting 1TB, I've decided to buy only 2.5"-based chassis, which typically provide 6-8 bays in a 1U form factor. That's more than enough to build an rpool mirror and a raidz1+spare, raidz2, or 3x-mirror pool for data. Having 8 bays is also a nice fit for the typical 8-port SAS HBA.
