Yeah, I've had nothing but horror from ACLs. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to avoid them for CIFS with windows access. On the other hand, I can't seem to get them right, either. I'm pretty sure the reason VMWare refuses to run a virtual machine on my fileserver is some kind of ACL problem.
Standard Unix permissions are simple and clear and can easily do everything I've ever needed, and about 10 times more; ACLs are pure pain.
First thing I've encountered that makes me feel like a dinosaur, and I've been in the industry 40 years.
