but Ian, aiui SOX requires backups onto a write-once non-eraseable
medium, because of all the discovery shennanigans and
claimed-incompetence around the time of the Worldcomm and Enron
bankruptcy near the start of Bush II.  The law in practice is sort of
like a tiger that chases the herd and eats the sick animal that's
lagging behind, and currently I think the herd is using ``WORM tape''
which is a tape that's made to appear to be append-only by the tape
drive's firmware.  These tapes exist now and must be retained for
seven years, so even if you invented a newfangled gadget meeting the
WORM requirements TODAY so that you can stay in the middle of the herd
without using tape, you still will not get rid of tape for seven
years.
