It's a bootblock issue. If you really want to get back to u6 you have to "installgrub /boot/grub/stage1 /boot/grub/stage2" from th update 6 image so mount it (with lumount or easier, with zfs mount) and make sure you take the stage1 stage2 from this update. ***WARNING*** adter doing so, you're u6 will boot, but you're u8 will not. In activating update 8 all GRUB items are synced. That way all BE's are bootable. That's the way it's supposed to be.
