Several people reported this same problem. They changed their ethernet adaptor to an Intel ethernet interface and the performance problem went away. It was not ZFS's fault. There is always the possibility that you have a slow disk drive or bad cable. Check /var/adm/messages for any suspicious messages from drivers.
