Not that this will get you "similar performance gains" - but don't overlook putting a couple of small 15k RPM SAS disk drives in the box. They work great with ZFS and really help out those poor SATA drives when ZFS starts beating up on them. And it also helps if you can't put more RAM in the box. Conduct your own "experiments" with 15k SAS drives as slog/cache devices.
