Do you know that the network is good ?

I'd recommend using iperf[1] to first check you have a good network 
connection between Windows and Solaris.  The reason I says this is 
because I've seen similar issues with two friends setting up a similar 
thing.

For streaming video you might actually be better off using a upnp media 
server on the Solaris system such as mediatomb[2].
