I've been testing opensolaris 2008.05 as a replacement for our main fileserver.
After following the CIFS walthrough on the genunix wiki, its working great with
our render farm.

Running into a problem though with our render manager ('Deadline' by frantic
films); the application creates folders to store metadata, but they come up
with a 000 permission rather than the 777 I'd expect. This breaks stuff. Our
current production server is a nas box running samba, it doesn't have this
problem, so it looks like its a CIFS/ZFS/ACL problem.

Is there any fix for this? I was contemplating hooking into the anti-virus
features of ZFS so that it'd fix permissions as files and folders get created.
However I want to make sure I'm not missing a simple

zfs set makegood=true tank/projects

command somewhere...

If thats not possible, is there a samba package available for installation?

Thanks,

-matt
