  I would expect all sorts of organizations would want to allocate
space to their customers as a concatenation of "reasonable sized" 
chunks, where the definition of reasonable would vary in size
depending on the business.

  I was recently in a similar discussion about how best to do this
allocation on a 9990v, so I expect it's not peculiar to the UofT (:-))
