To the user there is no difference between "regularly scheduled snapshots" and "snapshots before software updates". They are all just data backups and must be integrated consistently into the same GUI. It'll say "here is the time before last tuesdays update" and "here is monday morning". So what you are doing is a piece of that puzzle. I guess the IPS guys are working on another piece of the puzzle, meanwhile nobody is working on the GUI, and nobody is spearheading the whole effort.
