Hi Owen,

I'm not sure of the implications of Luster using ZFS DMU. Does this mean a subset of ZFS functionality, binary compatibility of written disks or what?

It means Lustre will be using ZFS (instead of ext4/ldiskfs) as its disk storage backend in metadata and objects servers. See this page for more information: http://arch.lustre.org/index.php?title=Feature_Lustre_ZFS

One of the goals is to maintain compatibility with the existing ZFS on-disk format (ZPL format).
The main reason for that goal is to provide the ability to bring down a Lustre server and be able to mount it with ZFS in case something goes wrong.

I also suggest that it would be more helpful to discuss Lustre in the lustre-discuss mailing list, where many folks with Lustre knowledge hang around: http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php?title=Mailing_Lists

Hope that helps,
Ricardo
