No.  raidz1 offers single parity only.  You should consider raidz2 which
offers double parity.  Also, spares are a good idea.  I have blogged on some
similar configurations and their analysis.  For brevity, I didn't include the
8+1 case, I stopped at the 7+1 case, but the trend will continue.  For more
