I favour your suggestion Adam since this is most flexible, otherwise we
end up with an explosion of zfs properties.

Don't we already have an infinite number of them with user-defined properties ?
So why bother ? Let's say we defined a new class of properties starting
with "iscsi:", i.e.

iscsi:alias
iscsi:lun
etc

That said, I do like it to be similar to sharenfs.
