Indeed. Progress is one-way like that...

..so I don't see the absence of this as a big deal.

Except that it dilutes the ZFS promise to, "we can keep your data safe... unless we have to restore any of it from a backup." It's a big deal if you want the integrity promise to extend beyond the pool itself! Or so it seems to me.
