hostid isn't sufficient (got a scar), so perhaps several identifying
characteristics would work. There is merit to this.
However maybe doing (optional) SCSI reservation on a pool would be a
good idea? Of course as an extra switch during/after import.
I know not all devices supports it but still. ZFS would allow either
reserve all disks in a pool or none.
Hopefully we like ourselves too much to try to use SCSI reservations.
The road is littered with the dead or bleeding carcases of people who
expected SCSI reservations to actually work. Heck, it took over 8 years
for even basic (by today's standards) SCSI functionality to be widely
implemented.
