How hard would it be to write a tool like that? Something along the lines of: zpool bench raidz disk1 disk2 ... diskN Let ZFS figure out the best way to set up your disks for you and tell you how it should be laid out (and even offer a "just do it" flag that will let it automatically create the pool depending on how it sees it best)? Yes, I know my hardware, and so perhaps I wouldn't need such a tool, but there are a lot of people out there who don't really know the best way to use their hardware for the best performance.
