I'll trust your judgement over mine on this, so I won't press. But it was mentioned that this would be useful to implement time-bounded huge meta-transaction such as a build. Given that we eventually do want to have a point where we know that data is on stable-storage, I'd figure we could say upfront what the time scale is.
