There is some logic in pypi.bbclass that aim to help with such tweaks.
I suggest you review that class. In particular, I think only
UPSTREAM_CHECK_PYPI_PACKAGE needs to be set, not the whole regex.

I don't remember because I don't use it. upgrade-helper.py is the
ground source of truth for it, so read that :)
