I'm not very sure what triggers it actually. FWIW, the workaround is to close the buffer beforehand. I'll investigate, eventually. BTW, good jobs fixing all these leaks! In just over a week the performance has gone from appalling to quite good. After ironing out the bugs it might be a good time to do a proper release. (Or shall we wait for pango?)
