The model that I would follow is what Vim does if you do ":set
showcmd". It
shows the current command keys that have been typed in so far in the bottom
right. I think this would be useful for both Vim and Emacs modes.
A usage scenario is this: In Vim, for example, you might type '^W' then 'w'
to change the window buffer. But you pause after typing '^W' and you forget
you typed it. Then, your next character may be an invalid command or it may
be something you didn't expect. Feedback on this would help.
