Oh, so it's back to menu buttons? I do like the idea. After that discussion
in the mailing list about it I went and made myself one. Adam liked it, but
it's not stellar.

This will be part of gnome 3.0, not xfce. That something like this
will come at some point was foreseeable; because it make much sense
from the usability point of view. The application entry supposed to be
the most important place on the panel; but currently this is the less
marked with a plain text and with a tiny logo. That the application
icon is an important usability tool is underlined by the fact that
most distros (windows, kde and so on) use icons to mark this
privileged entry place and it seems that gnome developers also
recognized this.
