I'm running Debian Sid.
After logging out X (I have Openbox as window manager) with Ctrl-alt-Backspace (or also mouse right-clicking), tty1 is completely obscured and then I have to do Alt-F2 (so going to tty2) and Alt-F1 and then I see tty1. Although it is obscured, I can type commands with the keyboard and regularly have them executed with `Enter'.
OP's original debian-user thread: https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2016/12/msg00459.html Could his problem have the same root cause as this? https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90572 -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
