Thank you for your answer: this is perfectly fine for me. I ask because I am doing a custom LiveCD with a software demo, which as part of the show, should also work on a machine I will not have access to until the actual event. By targeting VESA I am hoping to therefore reduce the risk of an unpleasant surprise at runtime. This UEFI transition seems bad news.. I guess it will be more difficult for these use cases in the future.
