Hi All:

I found on Ubuntu 12.04 using xrandr -output VGA-1 -scale
0.8x0.8, then get the screen info you can found:

                    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024,
maximum 8000 x 8000

VGA-1 connected 1024x820+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
338mm x 270mm

                1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0

                1152x864 75.0

                1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0 59.9

                832x624 74.6

                800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2

                640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 59.9

                720x400 70.1

But in Ubuntu 11.10 using xrandr -output VGA-1 -scale 0.8x0.8,
then get the screen info you can found:

                   Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 820,
maximum 8000 x 8000

VGA-1 connected 1024x820+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
338mm x 270mm

                1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0

                1152x864 75.0

                1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0 59.9

                832x624 74.6

                800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2

                640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 59.9

                720x400 70.1

I found the difference caused by one gnome API,
gnome-setting-demon, it call ProcRRSetScreenSize after xrandr API to
resize the desktop size, Does it reasonable ????

         Thanks for your info!!

BRS
