I have a large file that has been revised a few times over the last few years. I am able to open and work in the file just fine. However, my coworker is never able to open the file. The screen is just gray. She has no problem opening up any other file. What is the issue, and is there a fix for this?

Difficult to help you with so few information.

Please ask you coworker to start XMLmind XML Editor using <XXE_install_dir>\bin\xxe-c.bat rather than the usual way (which is running <XXE_install_dir>\bin\xxe.exe) and then, send us *all* the messages printed in the command prompt (AKA DOS window) associated to xxe-c.bat.

It's probably an out of memory error. A possible solution for this problem is found in this FAQ:

Q: XXE freezes when I try to open large XML files. Is there a workaround for this problem?

Note that if your "large file" contains many high-resolution images, another workaround is to:

1) Open a smaller document having the same document type as the large one.

2) Select menu item "View|Display Images|as Bounding Boxes" (or "as Thumbnails"). See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/viewMenu.html

3) Select menu item "Options|Customize Configuration|Use Current View Settings as Default". See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/customizeConfigurationMenu.html

4) Restart XMLmind XML Editor and open the "large file".
