Sorry but I cannot reproduce this issue using XXE 9.2. See attached sample.

Oh, but I can, easily :-} demonstrating once again my skill at missing things

I checked the source files again, extra carefully, and realised I was confused
by a mismatch between what I (normally) see and what I get:
* the .bookmap shows that I don't want a list of figures
* the dialogue for pre-processing options shows I'm going to get a list of
figures
* the document conversion parameters don't seem to include a way to specify
LoF/no LoF for exceptional documents like the one in question.

I haven't yet got as far as investigating your tip about <?xxe-stylesheet-set?>, but
certainly will do. It would be really handy to be able to set document-specific variables
such as <vrm> per document!

No need to investigate about <?xxe-stylesheet-set?> to solve this simple problem.

XXE considers that bookmaps and plain maps are different document types and as such can be configured separately.

Using the "Preprocessing options" dialog box (https://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/dita/preprocess_options.html#com.xmlmind.xmleditext.dita.PreprocessingOptionsEditor):

1) Open a bookmap and set all "Table of Contents", "List of Figures", "List of Tables", "List of Examples", "Index" to "Do not generate". These settings are NOT useful in the case of a bookmap as there are other ways (<booklists>) to specify TOC, LoT, LoF, etc.

2) Open a plain map and set "Table of Contents", "List of Figures", "List of Tables", "List of Examples", "Index" some of to "Generate as XXX" tou your likings. For a plain map, these settings are simple way to specify that you want TOC, LoT, LoF, etc.
