we are using the Professional Edition of XMLmind and are facing some
issues with XML files that have a size greater than 60 MB. We are mostly
using files from 60 MB to 200 MB. So basically XMLmind stops working
when I open a file greater than 60MB. According to the FAQ I increased
the –Xmx1024m value in the .bat file. The maximum value I can use is
–Xmx1336x until it stops working since XMLmind runs with 32 Bit Java.
More precisely the Windows distribution (setup.exe) includes a private
32-bit recent, generally latest, Java runtime.
So I like to ask if there is a XMLmind version that is delivered with 64
Bit Java, or can I just use the most recent 64 Bit Java Runtime from
Oracle and copy it into the program directory?
XMLmind XML Editor runs fine with any Java 1.6+ runtime, whether 32-bit
or 64-bit.

first get rid of the bundled private Java runtime. <--
In order to do that, simply delete folder <XXE_install_dir>/bin/jre/.
Once this is done, please download the Java runtime you want for Oracle
and install it normally.
<XXE_install_dir>/bin/xxe.exe (parameterized by xxe.jstart) will then
pick the most recent, preferably 64-bit, Java runtime available on your
computer.
Alternative <XXE_install_dir>/bin/xxe-c.bat will then pick the java.exe
found in your Windows directory. (This java.exe file is created by the
Java installer of Oracle.)
You can check which Java version XMLmind XML Editor is using by
selecting menu item "Help|About".
Do you have further solutions to open even larger files like 500 MB?
I'm sorry but we cannot help you. XMLmind XML Editor has not been
designed to deal with very large XML files containing data.
When we need to do some speed/responsiveness tests with a large XML
file, we use an old O'Reilly book: "Linux Device Drivers" by Alessandro
Rubini.
The size of this 500-page DocBook book is just 2.2Mb, which is just
ridiculous compared to your XML files.
FYI, opening this file takes 7s the first time (and 5s after that, once
the DTD has been cached). XMLmind XML Editor works normally (e.g. is
responsive, nice to use) when authoring books of this size.
