I haven’t used the copy of XXE Standard that I purchased a while ago.
XXE Standard Edition was free-to-use software. I mean, this edition
could not have been purchased.
Yesterday, I tried to start it on my Mac and was told that I needed to
download an older version of Java to make it work. Did I miss an update?
Many, many updates, I'm afraid.
I’m running macOS Sierra 10.12.5, Java Version 8 Update 141, XMLmind 3.5.2
There is indeed no way to run XMLmind XML Editor 3.5.2, an ancient
version, against Java 8 (and probably also against macOS Sierra).
Please help!
--> Not recommended: if you absolutely want to use XMLmind XML Editor
v3.5.2, you may try to download and install Apple Java 6 on your Mac:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US
--> Recommended:
a) uninstall latest XMLmind XML Editor v3.5.2;
b) download and install greatest XMLmind XML Editor Personal Edition on
your Mac:
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_download/xxe-perso-7_4_1.dmg
It's free for personal use (see
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/license_xxe_perso.html).

PS: If you wanted XMLmind XML Editor v3.5.2 just because of the xml2rfc
add-on, then you'll find a version of this add-on compatible with
XMLmind XML Editor v7 here:
https://github.com/wkumari/xml2rfc-xxe?files=1
Not supported, nor tested by us, XMLmind, though.
