I am evaluating XMLMind DITA edition for use at my company. I hope I
can ask a few questions.

My first question is, do you include a Tree View of the element
hierarchy? Or a Table of Contents View? I don't see it, but I might be
missing it.

Tree View, yes. Table of Contents View, no. Table of Contents is DocBook only, not DITA. In the case of DITA, the map or bookmap may be used as a simple but useful Table of Contents for its topics.

--> If you just want the tree view, simply select "(no stylesheet)" from the View menu. See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/viewMenu.html

--> If you want both the tree view and the styled view side by side, then please follow this procedure:

1) Open your DITA map or topic.

2) Select "Multiple Views|Add".
See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/viewMenu.html

3) Click the "Left" checkbox and select "(no stylesheet)".
See attached screenshot #1.

4) Click OK.

5) Adjust the width of the left pane (containing the tree view) to your taste).

6) Select "Multiple Views|Use as Default".

7) Check "Use as Default for all DITA documents".
See attached screenshot #2.

8) Click OK.

This is done once for all.

--> Now the tree view itself can be configured. This is done using Options|Preferences, View section, "Tree view settings" subsection. See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/viewOptions.html#treeViewSettings

These settings too are done once for all.
