I understood the problem to be located on the "webhelp" implementation side. And this is clearly related to the (Docbook in my case) style sheets and not to the Xmlmind editor product.
I'd though like to add that IMHO this navigation issue is crucial. My students frequently ask me why it is not possible to open the "next" page without clicking on the "up" and "down" buttons in the left navigational panel which is being regarded cumbersome. SafariOnline for example offers thin grey bars (replaced by buttons on tablets) both on the left and right side of each page to allow for clicking backwards and forward.
