My assumption is that when I want to insert a video..I use 'insert
mediaobject which is defaulted to an imageobject...then I replace this
with a videoobject ?
Yes that's normal. However you can easily create a custom mediaobject
template containing a videoobject using "Options|Customize
Configuration|Save Selected Element As Template". See
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/customizeConfigurationMenu.html
See also this tutorial:
Inserting custom element templates

*Problem is that when I double click on the video icon, the window does
not pop up to browse the desired video file for insertion..**?*
please clarify
The facility you expect is not available for videoobject and audioobject
elements. Videoobject and audioobject elements are currently not as well
supported as imageobject elements are.
If you want to specify the fileref attribute of the videodata element
please proceed as follows:
1) Click on the "film" icon to select the videodata element.
2) Use the Attributes tool to give attribute fileref a value. There is a
"Choose file" button (folder icon) which can be used for that.
