Hello Hussein,

Ok, explored Easy Profiling and it does indeed do roughly what I would have
expected of the filtering feature, thanks.

Jeff.

No there are no such plans. Besides I don't understand what you want to achieve.

The Navigation Pane is a read-only, TOC-like, view of a DITA map. When you
apply a DITAVAL file to it:

* As expected, the DITAVAL file is taken into account by the entries of
"Map|Convert Document".

* Some of the TOC entries may disappear because they have been filtered out by
the DITAVAL file.

* This also has an effect on the "key space", when the DITA map opened in the
Navigation Pane contains key definitions (see
http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/help/navigationPane_functions.html#about_navpane_and_keyref),
but we'll not discuss this in this email.

Now, let's transpose this to a topic opened from the navigation pane:

* Yes, the DITAVAL file could be taken into account by the entries of
"Topc|Convert Document". However, I don't think it's very useful to convert a
single topic to formats such as PDF, HTML, RTF, etc.

* The topic being editable in XXE, it would not be a good idea to filter out
some of its elements.

We have invented a facility called "Easy Profiling" which aims to make
working with conditional profiles and conditional profiling attributes
easier and safer.

This facility can be used to add some styles to elements having a given
profiling attribute value.

This facility can be used to add some styles to elements which will be
filtered out given the currently selected conditional profile.

In a nutshell, among other features, "Easy Profiling" allows the user to
*see* the effects of profiling.

Please take a look at this page which explains how this facility can be
put into use:
