Don't worry, we'll refund your money ASAP if it's what you want. See below.

and it says I need an old version of Java SE 6 to run on my new Mac.

Yes, that's right. Rationale:

1) For most end-users, Apple Java 6 is much easier to install than Oracle Java 7.

2) Apple Java 6 has a much nicer font rendering than Oracle Java 7.

3) The only advantage of Oracle Java 7 over Apple Java 6 is the capability to run applets in the browser. (Nowadays Web browsers disable Java unless you have the very latest version of Java installed on your computer.). However most end-users do not care about applets.

We do not intend to package our product to support Oracle Java 7 in the near future as we are fully satisfied of Apple Java 6.

How do I fix this?

Please proceed as follows:

A) Delete the folder created after installing the .dmg distribution.

B) Download the .zip distribution and unzip it anywhere you want.

C) Start XMLmind XML Editor by double-clicking on XXE_install_dir/bin/xxe (it's a shell script).

Unlike XMLEditor.app, XXE_install_dir/bin/xxe will use whatever java executable is found in your PATH. Hence if you have installed Oracle Java 7, then it will use it.

Thank you,

We hate the idea of having a dissatisfied customer. Therefore we would be very grateful if you agreed to trash the product and to be refunded (if you have paid the product using your credit card, this should be a snap).

Simply send an email to sa...@xmlmind.com explaining that you want to do this.
