When I use the Document Set Options to apply a Conditional Processing Profile

filtered/flagged according to the values defined in the .ditaval file?

Of course, yes. The .ditaval file specified there has an effect on the visual representation of the document set (looking like a TOC) and it is also used when converting the DITA document using "Convert Document".

Document set options

    ...

This button is disabled for all kinds of document set, except when the document set is specified by a DITA map. In such case, this button displays a dialog box allowing to associate a conditional processing profile (a .ditaval file) and a target medium (print or screen) to the underlying DITA map. These settings also have a direct effect on the list of member documents and on the visual representation of the document set.

If so, hmmmm, no love.

I'm sorry but I don't understand this comment.

In addition, what effect should the “target medium (print or screen)” have on
the presentation in XMLmind?

Attribute topicref/@print is treated by XMLmind as a conditional processing attribute.

For example, if target medium=screen and a topicref has print="printonly", then this topicref is excluded from the deliverable.

If you never use the print attribute, then “target medium (print or screen)” should have no effect.
