You probably only have one FontPath specified in the XF86Config -
the "unix/:7100" path which means it should get the fonts from a font
server, which probably isn't running.   You either need to run
the font server (xfs) or add some specific font paths, eg...

   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo"
