Hi,

I have just installed RedHat Linux 7.0 on to my laptop which has a Cirrus
Logic 7556 video card. By adding the line "vga=0x303" into the lilo.conf
file enables the VESA frame buffering (I am not quite sure what this means),
XFree86 uses the middle 640x480 of the 800x600 LCD display and leaves the
surrounding border blue (though when linux boots all of the screen is used
and a penguin appears in a colour box in the top left hand corner of the
screen).

I am using the rpms for XFree86 that came on the RedHat 7.0 CDs (including
XFree86-4.0.1-1 and
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.6-33)

My Hardware is;
AST M Series Laptop with P133MHz Processor and 80Mb of RAM
Graphic Card - 32-bit PCI Cirrus Logic 7556 with 2MB video memory; 64-bit
video RAM interface with simultaneous internal/external monitor support.
Monitor - Type(TFT) SVGA, Size12.1" Diagonal, Max Resolution800x600 - 64K
Color, Character Display80 Columns x 25 Lines

I have to admit that I am a bit of a novice at this and any suggestions
would how to use the full screen would be gratefully rec'd.

Thanks,

Charlie.
