We recently installed BSD/OS 5.0 (Internet Server Edition) on an existing server that was running BSD 4.3.1 and XFree86 4.1.0. After running the config_X command and completing the initial test, startx fails with the following error:
X connection to :8.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)
During the configuration phase config_X detected the correct video card
and monitor. I am attaching the XFree86.0.log file and the XF86Config
files. The end of the XFree86.0.log file shows an error as follows:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error
no screens found
We have loaded the new operating system as an upgrade and from scratch
with the same problem. We have tried three (3) of the same ATI Rage Pro
Turbo video cards along with a newer ATI Radeon 7000 card and the same
problem persists (All are AGP cards). We have tried a Nokia monitor and
a ViewSonic monitor with the same error/problem. Our current BSD 4.3.1
servers are currently running XFree86 version 4.1.0 with no problems.
We are running XFree86 version 4.1.0 (came with the new BSD 5.0)
As stated above, we are loading BSD Internet Server Edition 5.0
We are using an ATI Rage Pro Turbo and/or a Radeon 7000
The computer has a Giga-Byte motherboard GA-7VRX
We also have a new DELL PowerEdge 2600 server that we will upgrade to
BSD 5.0 when we resolve the XFree86 issue.
