It goes black (blank?) after XFree86 starts, right? Try CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2 or whatever and tell us if you get a text console display back. From there, you can edit your /etc/inittab to use a different default runlevel, one that doesn't start XFree86 and xdm at boot time, and instead run X with the startx script. Then you can play with your configuration until everything works, and lastly edit /etc/inittab back to the way it was. Also, by default, you can kill a running XFree86 X server with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. Of course, if you're running XFree86 and xdm from init, they'll just respawn anyway, but... it still helps to know. Red Hat 9.0... hmm. Surely it used some snazzy graphical installer program... did it? If so, then there is hope for you, because what worked once can be made to work again, even if you have to configure X to use Linux's fbcon for its display (something I have no experience with). -- Andy Goth | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://ioioio.net/ End communication. _______________________________________________ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
