I was under the impression that this should have worked.
For the Matrox card, was this Matrox's driver or the one that
came with XFree86? I as assuming the Matrox card was the secondary
card, that is, NOT the one that the console came up on. If so,
perhaps changing some settings in the motherboard bios to have
the console come up on the Matrox card will help. But I thought
the Matrox driver that came with XFree86 should have worked
fine as a secondary card (it did at one time).
