Mandrake 8.1, Radeon 9000 Pro, XFree86 4.1.0

I just installed linux, and the setup crashed while configuring X. My config and logs are attached; I'm not a linux native, and I have no idea what is wrong with them. I've downloaded the drivers for the Radeon 9000 from ATI.com in hopes that fglrxconfig would resolve the issue, but this solution just leads to more problems... Whenever I attempt to install the driver/package by:
rpm -i fglrx-glc22-4.1.0-2.5.1.i586.rpm OR
rpm -Uhv fglrx-glc22-4.1.0-2.5.1.i586.rpm
Nothing happens. Nothing. No error message, nothing gets installed.

There is a chance that the file is corrupted (I had to split it across floppies to move to the PC in question, then reassemble), but I'd like to get some outside advice before I try it again.

In any case, I have two problems...if anyone can solve either of them, I'd greatly appreciate it.
