I understand the problem, and there are ways to download the po files without using the transifex interface. I never tested any solution cause lately I don't do translations, but for about two weeks ago before the transifex install was finished, I sent a mail with a quick-n-dirty script. Maybe you can have a look at it and find it useful. But I would actually hope that there would be a download link for the whole apps of a collection. This is at least possible on Moblin[1].
