Thanks a lot for this reply, Paul! I appreciate your taking the time to give the configure command that works for you on ubuntu 16.04.1. Next time I take a look at this I'll be sure to test it out. I would like to test the development version of XeTeX to see if all of the documents and examples we ship with LyX compile without problems. Scott
