The biggest downside I can think of is that TTFs depend on good hinting on many Microsoft software (on the other hand, CFF fonts can look ugly on Windows too). But I think, ttfautohint is advanced enough for that task. There’s probably a difference in file size but I don’t know if that matters in your case.
