I have been looking at XeTeX guts (after the discussion of shifting from ATSUI to Core Text), and also Harfbuzz guts for another typesetting project, (still under wraps at the moment but more details soon!) and would be very happy to give some time to make this happen. Unfortunately this month is insane for me but I should have some time in September/October.
