If the monospace option is set by hand for non-monospaced fonts, how
will the letters be positioned in the monospaced grid? How should the
following pattern look?

You could also allow to set a mono(space) or fixed option to the options
when declaring a font. (Which might allow to set monospaced text in Times!)
