No, no Gnu stuff on that platform, apparently by design philosophy (don't ask 
me all the details, it's beyond me). And Plan9 C isn't C99 either (not sure 
whether that would be required or not).

I'm still not that familiar with the system, so it was really intended as a 
preliminary enquiry. But I appreciate the details.

No GCC? If you have some elder GCC without g++, why doesn't it work to  
compile a newer version of GCC with C++ support? (I think the C++  
sources are in xpdf and zlib. XeTeX also uses libfreetype and ICU.)
