What do you mean with "doesn't seem to"? Why aren't you sure if it works or not? Can't you provide a small but complete example that shows a failure? If I extend your snippet to a full minimal document it will use as text font the default latin modern font where the mapping is enable by default and works even without the \defaultfontfeatures command (assuming recent versions of the packages involved.
